How Can You Prevent Dental Cavities?

Posted on 5/22/2023 by Evan
How Can You Prevent Dental Cavities?Cavities, also known as dental caries or tooth decay, are small holes in the teeth. They are mainly caused by bacteria in the mouth, taking snacks regularly, drinking sugary beverages, and not brushing your teeth. If not treated, cavities get bigger and affect the roots of the teeth, leading to severe infections, pain, and, finally, tooth loss. Here are ways that can help to avoid cavities:

Brush After Every Meal

Proper oral hygiene can prevent dental cavities. You must brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste after drinking or eating. It is recommended you clean your teeth two times a day and floss at least once daily to get rid of food particles stuck between your teeth.

Drink Tap Water

Public water supplies usually add fluoride that greatly prevents dental decay. Consuming only bottled water only, you will not get fluoride benefits since it does not have fluoride.

Don't Sip or Snack Frequently

Anytime you consume or take beverages, you aid your oral bacteria in producing acidic toxins that can erode dental enamel. Drinking and snacking every day keeps your teeth under frequent attack.

Eat Balanced Diet

Some drinks and meals are more beneficial to your teeth compared to others. Stop eating foods that are easily trapped in your teeth's pits and grooves for an extended period, or else clean your teeth immediately after consuming them. Fresh veggies and fruits improve saliva flow, and sugar-free gum, tea, and unsweetened coffee aid in the removal of food particles.

See Your Dentist on a Regular Basis

Obtain expert dental cleanings and frequent oral checkups to help avoid or detect problems. Your dentist will propose the ideal schedule for you.

Get Fluoride Treatments

If you don't get fluoride from other sources and fluoridated drinking water, your dentist can suggest occasional fluoride treatments. If you are prone to high tooth decay, they may propose special trays that slide over the teeth to absorb prescribed fluoride.
